vid2flash Beta is a Windows utility which allows you to convert video movies into the ubitquitous Macromedia Flash (SWF) files. This process allows an end user to display the resulting video in a browser or import the file into Macromedia Flash Studio for further editing.

With Flash installed on 96% of the worlds browsers, this virtually guarantees an end user the ability to display video on their web site.

vid2flash is incredibly easy to use. Simply "Browse" for and select the movie you wish to convert, then press "Generate".

You may"Peview" your new flash file or save it.

Quality Button - This sets the quality of each image for every frame of the movie. To reduce the size of the final .swf file you should keep this number small. Increasing the number improves the quality but also increases the final size of the .swf file.

Frame Rate Button - You can set your own custom frame rate upon export. This means that the original movie will be resampled into a new frame rate. By lowering the frame rate you considerably reduce the size of the exported .swf file. (Note: The .swf file can only be 16000 frames. This is a limitation of the Macromedia Flash player and not vid2flash.)

Soundtrack Button - vid2flash will import the audio information of your selected ".wav" file into the .swf file. (This feature works best with a 16 bit Mono .wav files)

Issues!!!

1. Vid2Flash does support QuickTime ".mov" format. Some users may have chosen to install only the minimum QuickTime 4 application when running the QuickTime setup.

We have found that you need to download and install either the "Full" QuickTime 4 setup or choose to install the "Custom" setup and select the "Still Image Support" feature.

The minimum installation which, QuickTime defaults to, does not include this "Still Image Support". This is fine for users who only need to view QuickTime movies but for developers you will need this added feature in order to convert the movie into .swf format.

2. Import Audio Soundtrack Option - This feature works best with a 16 bit Mono .wav files. Some users have experienced difficulty with more complex higher quality files.

============================================================
3. Missing "Msvcp60.dll" file - Some systems may be missing this necessary "Msvcp60.dll" file.
This file is included in the vid2flash folder.
Please install the file in the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.

4. Audio in .avi only.

There are three ways to add audio:
	a. When converting AVI files, vid2flash uses the internal audio track. So you can always convert your video first to AVI and then to SWF.
	b. You can choose "soundtrack..." to add a wav file that will be added to the output SWF.

	c. If you buy the program, you will be able to import the output SWF into flash studio. In there you can add an audio track as well.

Audio is only directly supported with .avi format.

That is to say that the generated output from vid2flash will play the same audio that the source file used. Mov and mpeg format will output a .swf without the audio but you can attach an external sound .wav file before you convert the file. The audio will be output with the .swf in this case.

To import sound and video into flash studio you would have to isolate the audio portion of the movie and import it separately into Flash. This has to be done for all movies .swf, .mov, .avi etc... Flash will not import audio directly from a file with the exception of the source .fla.

Our beta version does not support sound for mpeg or mov format yet. Our full version, which should be ready sometime next month, will.
